Work > Save the Rex

A Ghanaian-American filmmaker who, while in Ghana to receive an African Movie Academy Award, is inspired to launch a Kickstarter campaign to refurbish the Rex Theater, one of the oldest cinema houses in West Africa.

In September 2013, filmmaker I ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to "Save the Rex" Cinema in Accra, Ghana. Save the Rex is a coming-of-age, semi-autobiographical feature-length film that weaves together real life and fictionalized storytelling to explore ideas of individual and collective identity, memory and home. This film is part of an on-going effort to revive one of Ghana's oldest cinema houses as an alternative creative space for art, music, and film. - Akosua Adoma Owusu
